One sunny Friday in September, I picked up two hiking enthusiasts at a nearby train station and drove to Lida, an outdoor sport and wilderness area in Botkyrka south of Stockholm. I had invited them to join me on the 9 km Adventure Trail that circuits Lake Getaren and offers scenic views and time away from the big city crowds.
This is my fourth time doing the trail and I know it's quite rough in places. Last time I brought three boys and plowed through dunes of snow, racing to finish the track before sundown.
Today was a sunny September day. We had time to stop and listen to the woodpeckers, take in the views over the lake, and the golden sunlight highlighting colourful mushrooms in the forest floor.
I brought the dog along too. You get a happy and tired dog after a couple of hours nosing around in the wilderness.
We wrapped up the hike with a lunch at Lida Värdshus and a game. Great alternative to a day in front of the screen at home or in the office.
