I invited the family for an early morning hike to listen to birds and to take in spring. I picked a trail near Bornsjön close to where we live. I wanted to get there early to have the hours of first light.
My dad used to take me on bird watching trips when I was a young adult. I recall getting up before sunrise and driving to a forest or coast and to walk between the trees and feel everything wake up.
We didn't make it before sunlight but we were out on the trail quarter past six which was humane. Stockholm is both further north and east than where I grew up in Denmark so it gets light pretty early this time of year.
The trail I chose is close to the freeway, but once we got on the other side of the ridge, the sounds of the cars faded and we could enjoy the birds and the lazy sun rising over the lake. The trail also takes you through varied terrain: Through pine and birch forest over rocky hills along pastures and along the lake. Different biotopes mean variation in birds and animal life.
What a bliss to walk in nature when everything is exploding into spring.
