As the light fades and winter solstice approaches, I usually reflect on the year that passed. It is an opportunity to appreciate the great moments of life. What better way todo this than to look back at the stream of pictures that went into my library and pick a select few favourites?
The truly best pictures for me personally are those of family and friends. Every now and then I print pictures of the season that passed and hang on our fridge. I did this again yesterday. DreamHack with my oldest. My father visiting. Every day life with kids cooking and playing with friends. Dinner for two with my wife. These I do not post here. This blog is for art photography. Where I capture the world as I see it. On a given time and place, through the lens of my smartphone.
2024 has been a great year. I travelled to places of great architecture and natural beauty. Gotland, Singapore. Getting a dog created many opportunities to take in the early morning in our local neighbourhood which also holds many wonders. Great images can happen anywhere and when least expecting it. Art photography is about living in the present. Capturing a moment and store it for eternity.
In no particular order, let me walk you through the highlights.
Alby Lake, Winter morning
I moved to Stockholm in 2017 after living in Copenhagen and Malmö for many years. Stockholm is further north and has a continental climate which means cold and sunny winters. Gear up and get out when ice has formed on the lakes, snow covers the landscape and the sun is low over the horizon. You will not regret it. The best moments in life are free.

Kovik Chapel, Gotland
On an overcast morning in June, I sent off my oldest with my wife for a day trip adventure while my youngest and I looked after the dog. No dogs allowed on the bird islands off the west coast of Gotland. With some time to kill, I bought a kite for my youngest and made our way to Kovik, a treeless peninsula reaching out into the sea.
Just after we arrived, the sky above us cleared, clouds whirling into wondrous shapes. The golden sunlight spraying the landscape and I moved around in a frenzy to capture the magic.

Dalman Gate, Visby
I had a chance to return to Gotland once again, this time for Medeltidsveckan. As we walked along the city walls one morning, the light and the sky were perfect for capturing the iconic Dalman Gate into the city of Visby.

Railroad bridge, Singapore
Singapore is turning the former railroad into a green corridor. My travel companion and I explored the trail on an afternoon after a rainy morning.

Rain, Singapore
After many warm and sunny days exploring Singapore, heavy tropical rain came as a pleasant change. We waited it out under the covered roof of the market in Little India and I captured the moment of tranquility and racing rain.

Sunrise over Alby Lake with the dog
We picked up a puppy in late January, a great way to practice living in the present. No matter what else happens in your life, this little guy needs to do its business outside three or four times a day. Also this early morning in late summer when we took the path down by the lake. The sunrise was mostly for me to enjoy. He was only looking at the sun for a brief moment, soon again busy with his nose in the ground.

Thanks
Thanks for reading. I hope you found opportunity to enjoy life and live in the present in 2024 too. If not, now is a good time to start.
Another fun project I did in 2024 was to set up a print on demand web shop. Many of the pictures in this post are available for sale. Read more posts about photography. Subscribe to posts about photography. Let's see what 2025 brings!
