Guided tours by Thoughtful Dane

This summer I offer guided tours of Greater Stockholm in Danish and English.

Stockholm Old Town with many spectacular views.

I moved to Stockholm in 2017 and have enjoyed exploring what this beautiful city has to offer. From the scenic Old Town in the city centre to Bronze Age petroglyphs carved on the suburb bedrock, there are many treasures to discover.

I have explored the footsteps of Alfred Nobel in Vinterviken, Vinterskogen and the Nobel Prize Museum. Lars Magnus Ericsson, telephone innovator and pioneer, is another of many other “tech bros” of the 19th century who shaped Stockholm, Sweden, and left a lasting impression on most of the world.

Detail from Ericsson's Memorial Room hidden inside the Police Museum.

I have visited Reactor One in the bedrock under the Royal Institute of Technology, where Swedish scientists experimented with nuclear fission in the 1960s. The remains of Ågestaverket 10 km south of the city centre is a monument to the strong will and belief in Sweden of nuclear power. Sweden even had their own nuclear weapons program, now abandoned. But maybe there is a detailed plan for how to create a nuclear bomb in a secret locker somewhere?

Tumba Paper Mill Museum is another personal favourite. The scenic site of historic buildings tells the story of how paper for bank notes was made since 1750.

Tumba Bruksmuseum Paper Workshop
In Tumba Paper Mill Museum you can make your own water marked paper.

I have enjoyed showing all these places and telling their stories to visiting friends and family. So now I offer up my services. I have suggested four tours here and are happy to tailor to specific requests. If you plan to visit Stockholm over the summer or know someone who does, and are interested in a guided tour, get in touch.

Slagstaristningen Botkyrka
The Slagsta Petroglyph discovered when a new road was built. Images of boats and animals carved into the rocks when the water level was much higher than today.
