An inspiring day in Hallunda

I had a great time yesterday at our SAGA boardgame design competition in Hallunda Folkets Hus.

Sunrise over Lake Getaren. Easter 2026.

A total of 20 games participated, among these Gotlandia and Draw stranger, my entries for SAGA 2026. Having my games played by happy and devoted gamers and getting their feedback face-to-face was great, as was meeting other game designers and playing their games. But best of all was to just be in the room and feel the concentrated buzz of people playing games.

So regardless of how the votes turn out, the event was a huge success and something we want to repeat in some form or another. I didn’t have time to take a lot of pictures so you will have to come and see for yourself next time.

We will know in a day or two which games qualify for the finals at LinCon in about one month.

A new game popped up

Happy and tired and full of impressions, my brain of course woke me up with a new design ready to be realised. So this is what I did today.

Ladies and gentlemen, I’m happy to present my latest game: Petroglyph. A Bronze Aged themed take on a memory set collection game. 17 cards of course — and this one is one you can play with kids and adults alike. Risk taking is rewarded when you pay attention and remember what cards the other players have revealed.

The visual design is inspired by the Bronze Age petroglyphs abundant all over Sweden, for instance those uncovered in nearby Slagsta when they built out the area. I had an idea to use the petroglyphs for a game and one of the games I played yesterday led down the path of a memory set collection game.
